At this point I successfully completed a great nap and was feeling pretty pumped. I decided earlier that day that I’d explore the Tokyo Skytree and see why it was labelled a bit of a tourist trap. I found out soon enough that while it was expensive, I’m extremely happy with the photos I got.
As a bonus, it was even pretty cool to see Disney Sea in the distance and get a faraway look at my future!
Golden Hour
I wish I could say I planned to leave around sunset, but it was a completely happy accident. This was slightly before the colour of the sky started to turn orange.
Up, Up, Up
This whole area was a lot more intense than I expected. It was a shopping mall, grocery store, skating rink, and city view all in one!
Sunset Needle
It’s hard to show the scope of how tall this tower is. Watching the sunset behind it as the sea of buildings slowly turn their lights on was an incredible way to spend a few hours.
Enhance
I wanted to show a bit more detail of the tower’s structure, because it’s such an odd and curious lattice of steel.
Skating For Ants
I happened to look down at the activities that were going on below me. I was higher up than I expected and loved the forest of line created by the train tracks and the mall.
Tiny Froggy Home
This small habitat was designed by a storefront at the bottom of the Tokyo Solamachi. It was the most detailed little aquarium I have ever seen and I wanted it badly.
Follow the Lights
I was exploring around the mall a little bit while trying to decide what to eat. The trees were covered in lights and I thought the layers of lights made a cool image. I ended up eating 3 very large dumplings with ramen. It was delicious.
I'm Going Up There
This was the point where I decided to go up to the top. It wasn’t going to be a cheap adventure, but I finished dinner early and still had lots of time. The biggest deciding factor was there weren’t any long lines that typically deter me from visiting these types of attractions.
I Came A Long Way
I took this (knowing that it would be blurry and grainy without a tripod) because I liked the idea that I could see where my day started . The red tower contrasted against the lit buildings was of great importance to me. A fun memory.
Thy Enemy Is Reflections
This is one of my favourite photos from the whole trip. The sea of lights mixed with the ability to trace my entire day in a single picture brings up a lot of warm feelings for me. To get this photo, I probably took a hundred photos from different levels from the top of the tower. This was the one that had the least amount of reflections, and I love it.
Almost Sleep Time
It was a long day, and I was exhausted. Japan was already starting to leave an impression and I felt lucky that I was able to visit and have a fantastic location for my hotel.
