This was the afternoon I decided to turn off the beaten path and explore the woods a bit. I wanted to investigate the forest and spend some time getting to know the local nature.
It turns out I was also looking for a bit of peace and quiet to think and contemplate at closing days of the trip.
This was the second to last full day.
The Dark of the Leaves
As I was walking up the mountain I was constantly distracted by the gorgeously dense forest.
Little Brook
I’ve been experimenting with using my portrait lense to capture nature photography, I feel like this is one instance where it really helped bring out the detail.
Fallen Log
I loved how the log created an natural line in the image that breaks up the blurry background.
Group at the Top
I arrived at the top of the mountain after about 40 minutes of walking. It went the long way around because I was walking on a service road, but it was safe and I still got to see the deer at the top.
Looking for Food
As cute and photogenic as the deer were, they were mildly harassing this family trying to eat lunch. They were eager to get hold of some of their food.
Nature on the Edge of a City
The thing I found particularly interesting is how the city wrapped around the mountain. It stretched on far into the distance.
Quick Rain Storm
A rain storm was threatening the calm at the top of the hill. The wind was starting to pick up and brought some ominous clouds with it. I love it!
Pose for Me
I waited quite a while for this guy to get into a better position so he’d be back lit. He didn’t quite go where I wanted him too, but I was too afraid to move in case I scared him away.
Look the Other Way
On my way back down I remembered to look down some paths I didn’t before. Although I would have loved to go down it and see where it went, I was eager to get back to the hotel.
Little Creek
A fun little creek on my way out. After this I’d find dinner and relax. No doubt looking for weird snacks at the local 7-11.
